Product details

Using the example of Harry Haller in "Steppenwolf," Hermann Hesse addresses an identity crisis manifested in the protagonist's suffering from the split between two contradictory sub-identities. As he stagnates in the development of his personality within complete resignation, any further evolution seems initially hopeless and only begins to unfold in the course of the narrative when Haller encounters his soul images. Based on this thesis, the work will clarify how Haller's crisis-ridden identity materializes. Since the unique composition of the novel also influences the events, it will be examined more closely. The work also points to the psychoanalytic influence in the respective context, as this is of central importance for understanding the novel. It largely focuses on the teachings of C. G. Jung, as Hesse does.
