Elementary pedagogical models play an important role as content focal points for upper secondary education in grammar schools and comprehensive schools. They are currently a mandatory component of the curriculum, including in pedagogy classes in North Rhine-Westphalia. The two prescribed approaches are those developed by Maria Montessori and Loris Malaguzzi (Reggio pedagogy) in Italy. In addition to the upper secondary level, these approaches also hold central significance in vocational colleges and vocational schools across all German federal states as well as in German-speaking countries abroad. The present collection of materials on Reggio pedagogy was compiled by Franz-Josef Brockschnieder, an expert in this field, and was first presented at the 29th Pedagogy Teachers' Day in 2009 at Ruhr University Bochum. The volume covers the central areas of Reggio pedagogy.
