Product details

The work on regional variation in intonation provides an overview of existing studies on the topic and then focuses on the analysis of the intonation of the Cologne regional variety based on spontaneous speech data. The analysis combines methods from the autosegmental-metrical approach with those of interactional linguistics. Since the autosegmental-metrical approach has become the standard descriptive method in intonation research in recent years, this ensures comparability of the various research results. Furthermore, the approach of interactional linguistics allows for the demonstration of the actual use of intonation patterns by the participants in the interaction. The focus of interest is on two rising-falling contours that are typical for the Cologne dialect. They are examined phonetically.
