An apple tree that is neither sick nor cut down bears fruit on its own. We humans are also designed to bear fruit - for our own well-being and for the good of the greater whole. However, this does not happen automatically for us. Our maturation requires self-knowledge and the acceptance of a force greater than just human. This is facilitated by meditation, which involves regular immersion or devotion in a context of silence. Characteristics of increasing maturity include wisdom, kindness, and taking responsibility. Yet, in every maturation process, counterforces are at work, and global catastrophes threaten. What do paths to individual and collective maturity look like? This is a crucial question, as our world needs the voice and contribution of as many mature individuals as possible more urgently than ever.
