Product details
The study examines the migration processes of Russian Jews. It focuses on both immigration policy and the experiential perspective of the migrants. In-depth biographical case studies provide insights into a complex restructuring of social experience and individual positioning. Since 1991, Jews from the former Soviet Union have been accepted in Germany as Jewish contingent refugees. Franziska Becker explores immigration policy along with its legal and bureaucratic frameworks, as well as its social and cultural contexts. The study also presents a German strategy of identity attribution, which clearly has constructive and normative features. Through biographical case studies, the research demonstrates how these attribution discourses influence the individual migration process and challenge migrants to reflect on their life stories.
