Chen-kuan Lee (19142003) and the Chinese Werkbund
German, Wen-chi Wang, 2010Product details
Together with Hugo Häring and Hans Scharoun, Lee founded the Chinese Werkbund (1941–1953), which aimed to contribute to the intercultural intellectual development between Chinese and German architecture. The engagement with questions of architecture, culture, and especially Eastern philosophies significantly influenced the work of the 'Chinese Werkbund' working group. Lee succeeded in incorporating the insights from this fruitful connection into his designs. Wen-chi Wang demonstrates this in a thorough examination of selected residential buildings from Southern Germany and Berlin. The book also includes a biography and a catalog of works of the architect, who primarily worked in Germany.
