Product details

The conception of the Olympic Village took place during a time when the theory and practice of urban planning were shifting from functionalist modernism to the ideals of postmodernism. In this context, Natalie Heger examines the influence of the political and socio-cultural issues of the time on the specific planning methodology and spatial conception of the Olympic Village. She illustrates how the planners of that era engaged deeply with social questions to address a contextual approach to architecture. She demonstrates how they succeeded in de-hierarchizing the planning processes and aligning them interdisciplinarily, ultimately allowing them to reflect their visions of society and the social design of living spaces in the spatial and structural elements of the Olympic Village.
