Product details

The art projects of Land Art are mostly found in uninhabited areas, such as the desert and prairie landscapes of the American Southwest. As works situated in nature, they possess a specific sense of place that can only be experienced through the presence of the viewer on-site. However, the remoteness of the projects and their gradual decay due to weathering and erosion also necessitate their presentation through photographs, drawings, and films. This study focuses on the media representation of Land Art and its interplay with the site. Many Land Art projects are visible to most viewers only in picture books or galleries, in films, photos, and drawings. Their site-specificity is thus established not only through the perception of the visitor at the execution site but is also negotiated through various media.
