Marcel Broodthaers (1924-1976) was a poet, author, and artist. Between 1968 and 1972, he conceived the Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles (Museum of Modern Art, Department of Eagles), which became groundbreaking for the development of art in the 1980s and 1990s. Broodthaers transcended media specificity and realized his idea of a fictional museum through several large-scale installations featuring a wide variety of objects and media. Through the concept of the museum, he questioned the traditional art market in twelve sections and illuminated the understanding of art as a construct.
