Product details

The fall of the massive Stalin monument in Budapest marked the beginning of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Only Stalin's boots remained on the pedestal at that time. Initially a triumphal monument of a special kind, the motif of political hubris soon became a metaphor for failed power. The image of the abandoned boots dates back to antiquity and has undergone numerous updates in the medium of caricature. The historical site of the Stalin monument was replaced with a new memorial after the collapse of the Eastern Bloc. In contrast, Stalin's boots experienced a memorable resurrection in a sculpture park. Bridging political imagery and monument preservation, they serve as a unique tourist attraction and contribute to the current discussion about the history of reconstruction - the reconstruction of history.
