Product details
Thessaloniki 1943. On February 8, the Nuremberg racial laws of 1935 are enforced in occupied Greece. Already on February 25, the deportation of Jews to labor and extermination camps begins. In 18 transports, more than 45,000 Jews are taken away, of whom barely 1,000 return. One of them is Edda, the central figure of this authentic story. She was able to entrust her two-year-old daughter Réina to a Catholic convent in time, where she survives the war as Gilberta. Decades later, after the death of her parents, she tells the Athenian author Nina Nahmia the story of her family. The carefree time before the traumatic event and her youth thereafter with her scarred mother.
