"Do I have to play what I want again?" In person-centered child psychotherapy, also known as play therapy, children and adolescents determine for themselves what they want to do. Interventions are not experienced as treatment but as meaningful support during play. In the therapy of Paul, a restless 10-year-old who is struggling with the loss of his deceased father, one can observe the therapist's approach: How does he respond to Paul's impulses during play? How does he help the boy overcome grief, anger, and fears through his own experiences? The case presentation is complemented by excursions into the theory of person-centered child psychotherapy, including concepts of human nature, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
