The main island of the Balearic Islands appears almost like a small continent in itself, offering a correspondingly diverse landscape: Behind the steep coastline of the northwest rise the mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana, with numerous peaks over 1000 meters. On their slopes, forests filled with holm oaks and pines extend. Running parallel to this in the southeast is a second, smaller mountain range, the Serra de Llevant. Between the two mountain ranges lies the fertile central plain, dotted with numerous wind turbines. Along the coast, hundreds of caves are hidden, including the famous Coves del Drac, which features the largest underground lake in Europe. In fjord-like bays, the water shimmers in emerald green and turquoise blue, while in the far south of Mallorca, the Platja es Trenc entices visitors with its expansive dune landscape, and the fine sandy beaches of Palma and Alcúdia offer delightful bathing experiences.
