Product details

In August 2008, Joachim Held sets off for Africa. He goes with the flow, crossing the Western Sahara, battling through the Congo, and continuing on to Cape Town. On his way back, he climbs Kilimanjaro. In the end, he spends two years traveling 33,000 kilometers, captivated by the joy of life and the willingness to help among the people, but also deeply affected by their living conditions. In Sierra Leone, he sees hungry children; in Guinea, he gets caught up in a coup; and in Cameroon, he is foretold an encounter with death. One evening, he sits with village elders in the remote jungle of Central Africa and hears questions to which he has no answers: "Why is Europe so rich and Africa so poor? What should we do? You tell us, you come from Europe!" Joachim Held sensitively recounts his encounters and experiences in Africa, describing the highs and lows of his journey.
