New Orleans, Louisiana, in the year 1862. Amid the turmoil of the Civil War, young Isabeau Murrait, known to everyone as 'Zabo', sets out to reunite with her younger brother Nano. Along the way, she encounters the photographer Coustans, who joins Zabo on her adventurous journey, during which they cross enemy lines, are attacked by guerrillas and deserters, and narrowly escape death. When the unlikely pair arrives at the estate of Lananette, Zabo meets her great-grandmother Isabeau de Marnaye for the first time, who shares with her an extraordinary story about wars, prisons, and the horrors of slavery. Although the two women are separated by 80 years, they share at least one thing in common: their love for freedom and independence! After nearly 25 years, the first part of this two-part narrative is now being released.
