The volume presents relational sociology as an innovative theoretical and research approach for current sociological discussions. In general, relational sociology focuses on the theoretical modeling and empirical analysis of social networks as socio-cultural formations. Network structure is conceived as intertwined with cultural patterns. The international contributions in the volume highlight theoretical and empirical directions that can overcome the pure structuralism of network research. In doing so, network research is fruitfully connected with system theory, the sociology of conventions, and actor-network theory, among others.
