Religious education today faces new challenges: the significance of religion in family and everyday life is declining, and new forms of value education are becoming increasingly attractive to young people. Moreover, they are increasingly engaging with other religions. These societal trends are reflected in religious education: many students lack fundamental theological education, and the inability to articulate their own religious position stifles any classroom discussion. Consequently, discussions about religious topics do not take place. The religious textbook provides answers to these new challenges. Its concept can be summarized in the keywords narrative, information, dialogue: the teaching material narrates and informs in an age-appropriate manner about biblical traditions and historical religious facts.
