In light of the current socio-political, media-related, and everyday discourses, it can be observed that we are experiencing a renaissance of religion, which is moving from the realm of the personal and private into the public and collective sphere. Religion is increasingly perceived in public and often serves as a reference point for individual and collective claims for recognition as well as movements seeking meaning. This societal presence of the religious is fundamentally significant for social work as a science and profession. Among other things, it is the recipients of social work who address religion and challenge professionals to engage with it. The contributions in this anthology deal with possible responses to this renewed engagement from various theoretical, conceptual, and methodological perspectives.
