The documentation of European Jewish history during the era of systematic persecution, deportation, and the murder of millions of European Jews still requires a documentary effort that also serves to preserve the memory for future generations. It is also the story of a singular civilizational break marked by unimaginable suffering. Since 1991, the editors of this volume have compiled data on Jewish residents recorded in Heidelberg from 1933 to 1945. Alongside the alphabetical basic structure, family contexts spanning several generations are systematically presented. This approach gives a vivid and biographical depth to the picture of the Jewish population of Heidelberg from 1933 to 1945. By incorporating other documentation collections, archival research, and extensive correspondence, a stable representation of life emerges.
