Product details
For nearly two years, the Italian artist Igort traveled through Ukraine, Russia, and Siberia between 2008 and 2009 to document the memories of the people he encountered along the way in words and images. In doing so, Igort seeks to find an answer to what the Soviet Union truly was. Similar to his reports from Ukraine, in the second part of his diptych, Igort addresses the past and present of Russia. During his journey, he spoke with people on the streets about the war in Chechnya, the bloodshed following the Beslan hostage crisis, as well as the Stalinist gulags, where millions of people who did not conform to the Soviet regime lost their lives. However, at the center of the book is the Russian-American human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya, who was murdered in 2006.
