Bremen 1831. A young writer arrives at the Weser with the task of writing a travelogue about the Hanseatic city. However, she is met with an atmosphere of distrust, as the city is consumed by a single topic: the imminent execution of the multiple poisoner Gesche Gottfried. Unintentionally, the fate of the young woman becomes intertwined with that of Gesche Gottfried. In March 1828, a criminal case was uncovered in Bremen that would deeply and lastingly shake the city and garnered immense attention due to its unprecedented nature. During the initial interrogations, 43-year-old Gesche Margarethe Gottfried confessed to having poisoned fifteen people from 1813 to 1827, including her husbands, her parents, and her children. Based on this historical drama, Peer Meter and Barbara Yelin develop the story.
