The study traces the four decades of the last administrator of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg, August of Saxony (1614-1680), in Halle, focusing particularly on the relationship between court and urban society, thereby connecting current approaches in urban, court, and residence research. It explains, among other things, the consequences of the Thirty Years' War and the related governmental actions of the prince, as well as the composition and structure of the court and authorities.
