Product details
On May 27, 1718, Emperor Charles VI grants the "First Inventor of the local porcelain factory," Claudius Innocentius du Paquier, the privilege to produce porcelain in the Vienna suburb of Rossau. This new, excitingly sensual material is well-suited for the fantasies of artists and patrons of the Baroque period, as well as subsequent eras. When Emperor Franz Joseph I closes the factory in 1864, the art world of Vienna protests. In 1923, bankers, collectors, and entrepreneurs unite for the longed-for re-establishment in Augarten with Josef Hoffmann, Vally Wieselthier, and other prominent figures of the Wiener Werkstätte. The porcelain factory Augarten remains true to the then-programmatic synthesis of tradition and modernity to this day. Claudia Lehner-Jobst tells the story of Viennese porcelain in twelve chapters, featuring photo installations by designer Sebastian Menschhorn and personal statements.
