On a stolen piano, Samir, known as Sam, plays classical music in the mornings. During Friday prayers at the mosque, he struggles with fantasies of blonde, naked devil women. In history class, he dreams of revenge for the brave Anne Frank. However, he is happiest when he can ride through Amsterdam at night on a Vespa with his beloved brother. Thus, Sam grows up as the son of Moroccan immigrants in the colorful De Pijp neighborhood, until his older brother, who lives by fraud and theft, is arrested and sentenced to six years in prison. Yet, Sam promises him that despite all obstacles, he will graduate from the prestigious civic high school, navigating a life full of contrasts with a lot of wit and cheekiness.
