The European Union aims to represent a historically unique and exemplary system of governance. However, with its monetary, tax, and subsidy policies, it is creating a gigantic state-controlled economy that intricately regulates all areas of citizens' lives and increasingly operates outside the law. The noblest idea of Europe, to unconditionally respect the dignity of each individual, is at risk of being forgotten. After a long period of intellectual, economic, and political gains in freedom, citizens' willingness to effectively engage for their rights seems to have waned. Carlos A.
