Vietnam never stops. Even more than forty years after the end of the conflict, people continue to speak, write, argue, and discuss it, examining it as if it were a recurring nightmare, a calamity that must be faced sooner or later. Certainly, the Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East also never ends, but the difference is significant: the latter continues, while the Vietnam War ended in 1975. However, the memory of those years remains very much alive, with a felt, persistent relevance. A sober analysis suggests that it was a conflict of smaller proportions with a limited engagement from a superpower far away in the Third World, costing the lives of over two million Vietnamese and 58,000 Americans. So many, and yet so few compared to the two World Wars.
