Love, Murder, and Revolution on the Moselle in Autumn 1848: The German people have risen up against princely rule and the fragmentation of states for the first time, but in the Moselle Valley, the population suffers greatly due to the ongoing wine crisis. In a small wine-growing village near Bernkastel, a large vineyard owner and a usurer are murdered in quick succession. At the same time, a riot breaks out in the town as Prussian authorities attempt to arrest some of the local revolutionary leaders. Village schoolmaster Alexander Martini, whose heart beats for a united and free Germany, as well as for the beautiful winemaker's daughter Maria, tries to shed light on the affair. In doing so, he becomes caught up in the whirlpool of political events and the dark machinations in his village.
