"Schinderhannes and His Gang" was published shortly after the execution of Schinderhannes in 1804 and is one of three known authentic biographies about the outlaw that were already in progress during his lifetime. Unlike other publications, the book avoids embellishments and tales that usually surround the story of Schinderhannes. Although published anonymously, the book clearly comes from the pen of Weitzel, the editor of the Mainz newspaper. He was also an observer at the Schinderhannes trial and a friend of the court president Rebmann. A rare contemporary document in its second edition.
