Product details

Alexander Lange Kielland (1849-1906) was initially a lawyer and entrepreneur before moving to Paris in 1879 to become a writer. By 1890, he turned away from literature again and became a civil servant. Kielland is one of the four great reformers of Norwegian literature, alongside Henrik Ibsen, Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, and Jonas Lie. His novelistic biography of Napoleon is particularly characterized by an unconventional perspective on the French emperor and a pointed assessment of historical events. This is a revised reprint of the original German edition published in 1905, which includes both volumes.
