Noa Noa means "fragrant" in Tahitian; it will be what Tahiti exudes. Paul Gauguin wrote his biographically tinted artist narrative "Noa Noa" to bring the mysterious world of Tahiti closer to the Parisian audience and also as a key to understanding his painting. His bold concept of natural life and free love was revised and supplemented by the symbolist poet Charles Morice in France and later in Germany, achieving immense success, especially among young expressionists. The new edition of "Noa Noa" adds central passages from Gauguin's notes, letters, and interviews in which he discusses the South Seas and his art to the famous first German translation.
