Study paper from 2007 in the field of German Studies - Genres, grade: not yet assigned, University of Potsdam (Institute for German Studies), course: Introduction to the Literature and Language of the 17th Century, 18 sources in the bibliography, language: German.

Abstract: Although Martin Opitz's "Book on German Poetry" from 1624 does not yet mention the novel, a scholarly discourse on the role and significance of the novel emerges in the German-speaking world during the 17th century. By the end of the 17th century, two opposing positions on the novel can be found in the romantic theoretical contributions of Christian Thomasius (1655-1728) and Gotthard Heidegger (1666-1711). My paper will examine the contemporary perspectives on baroque prose literature, along with their respective arguments, evaluations, and examples, based on central romantic theoretical texts from both authors.
