The wall and ceiling paintings, as well as the stained glass works of the Swiss artist Roman Candio, born in 1935, can be discovered in many parts of Switzerland. After initial instruction from painter and color theorist Jacob Weder in Langenthal and attending a teacher training seminar, Candio continued his education as a visual artist at the Lucerne School of Arts and Crafts in 1958/59. In 1959/60, he studied free and monumental painting with Georg Meistermann at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts and assisted the well-known church painter Ferdinand Gehr in executing large wall and ceiling paintings in Switzerland. Since returning to his homeland in 1961, Candio has created around seventy art-in-architecture works, mainly in schools, nursing homes, residential complexes, monasteries, and churches.

For this new monograph, Bruno Frangi and Roswitha Schild, accompanied by Roman Candio, embarked on a journey through Switzerland to comprehensively document the approximately sixty existing works of the artist for the first time through photography. The book presents well-researched art historical texts and a conversation with Candio, thoroughly exploring his artistic biography and honoring his work characterized by intense color. It includes contributions from Sibylle Zambon, Roswitha Schild, and Bruno Frangi, as well as a conversation with Roman Candio.
