Heinrich Heine wrote in 1824: "I want to climb the mountains where the pious huts stand, where the breast opens freely and the free winds blow." These mountains are located in the Harz, at the summit of the Brocken, which has a peak height of 1,142 meters. Year after year, millions come, some returning again and again. The romantic landscapes, which were first shown to us by Heine and Goethe, Hermann Löns, and Fontane, are experiencing a remarkable renaissance. It is no wonder that countless legends and stories have originated in the Harz, spun and retold on long evenings, about the Devil's Wall and the good dwarf Hübichenstein. Goethe himself was inspired in 1777, when he conquered the Blocksberg, as he called the Brocken, to create the Witches' Dance Place in Faust. Even today, traditional witch dances take place here on Walpurgis Night, the night before May 1st.
