A girl returns home, heavily pregnant, after a long time to the surprise of her parents (The Name). A young woman and mother is desperate about her husband's passivity (The Night Sings Its Songs). In Jon Fosse's early pieces, the banal becomes a threat. Seemingly harmless events throw people off their usual course and lead to life-changing disruptions. As ordinary as the problems Fosse presents may be, his wonderfully laconic and poetic language creates a compelling pull.
