Henry Miller's famous book about Greece was written in 1940, after he spent five months traveling in that myth-laden country the year before. It is a fascinating account in which the archaic landscape and the world of classical myths are revitalized and infused with Miller's wild imagination. At the same time, his book reads as a document of a cleansing process, at the end of which Miller discovers something of home and the peace that his restless spirit had set out to find.
