Starting in 1938, girls in the countryside had to complete what was known as the compulsory year. The author has collected moving stories in this book. The girls were expected to help in agriculture or take care of children. Despite interrupted or lacking education, illness, and sorrow, almost all of them managed to forge their own path. They formed friendships that lasted a lifetime, withstood all adversities, and occasionally even found love.
