Product details
The Hohe Tauern, featuring the Venediger, Granatspitz, Glockner, Schober, and Goldberg groups, is the highest mountain range in Austria. Majestic ice giants like the Grossglockner – at 3,798 m the tallest mountain in Austria – and the impressive pyramid of the Grossvenediger dominate the landscape. They provide the backdrop for diverse ski tours. Large parts of the Hohe Tauern have been under special protection as a national park since 1983. Ski mountaineers can experience wonderful valleys, impressive waterfalls, and the largest glaciers of the Eastern Alps.
The Rother Ski Touring Guide presents 45 day tours in this vast mountain range, starting from well-known huts as well as conveniently located valley towns. In addition to the classic summit ascents of the 'big names' Grossglockner and Grossvenediger, which are naturally included, numerous other attractive tours that lead high up are described, such as to the Grosser Geiger, Dreiherrnspitze, or Hohe Riffl. In the Goldberg group, generous spring tours await with Hocharn and Sonnblick. There is also plenty on offer for the mid-winter and for beginners in ski touring.
As an added bonus, three multi-day excursions are presented, with the 'Hochtirol' being a special highlight. On this generous six-day traverse, the ski mountaineer experiences the full range of the Hohe Tauern. For the multi-day tours, elevation profiles provide a compact overview of the route and stage division.
The color-coded difficulty classification, clear tour profiles with all important information, tour maps at scales of 1:50,000 and 1:75,000 with marked routes, and detailed route descriptions for each tour make selection and orientation on-site easier. Exposure symbols provide a quick overview of the prevailing slope directions for each tour and assist in assessing avalanche risk and snow quality.
