East Frisia is well-known as a paradise for cyclists, but as a paradise for hikers, it remains almost undiscovered. The beauty of many paths often reveals itself only in the slowness and tranquility of walking. The hikes along the Wadden Sea, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009, are impressive and unforgettable: they lead along the coast, through salt marshes and green dikes, past lighthouses and fishing harbors. Not only sandy flats, dunes, and beaches, but also true plant oases can be found on the adjacent islands. The inland area between Jade and Ems is also characteristic: here you will find majestic castles, old avenues, and countless windmills, as well as the warf villages built on artificially elevated land. Attractive hikes are also available in Germany's largest raised bog at the Eternal Sea.
