Product details

On May 1, 1966, a young German from the Hessian province finds himself in a New York jazz club where the saxophonist Albert Ayler is performing. Confused, offended, and exhilarated by the unprecedented music of that time, the young man begins to discern the ominous chaos of the present from these sounds: the assassination of Kennedy, the Vietnam War, the noise of the stock market, the struggle of Black Americans, and the student protests. The more he immerses himself in the wild music, the closer he comes to understanding himself, confronting the repressed pain of a conflict with his father, triggered by another jazz concert, and the awkward, adolescent beginnings of his writing. Captivated by Ayler's improvisational frenzy, the young man realizes in a visionary whirlwind of associations the revolutionary energy that lies within awareness and anger. This music allows him to physically feel how it all connects.
