This evening is meant to decide everything - Jan has reserved a table at the upscale restaurant "Paris," has the ring in his pocket, and the proposal in his mind, even though he can hardly hope that the beautiful Nadine will break off her engagement with someone else and stay with him in Berlin. However, he didn't anticipate the arrogant owner Naujoks, who only wants cash after a mishap at the restaurant, which Jan must first obtain; nor did he expect the aging policeman Hentschel, who tries to act tough when he sees Jan running into the bank. Jan, who just wants to return to Nadine, is taken to the precinct, where he loses his composure - with terrible consequences. In just one night, the euphoria and desperation of young love, human weakness, and the interplay of rather unlikely coincidences create a whirlwind of violence, a dramatic pull of fate from which no one can ultimately escape.
