From the early student poems heavily influenced by Rilke, through the critical time poetry of the 1920s, to references to post-war poetry, the poet traversed many schools. His poems consistently evade precise categorization. Particularly enlightening are the knowledgeable comments by the editor, Bernd Rauschenbach.
