Tom loves the forest. After school, he is always drawn to the quiet places where he can observe what moves in the clearing undisturbed. But on a cold November evening, everything is different. No animals are in sight, and there is no sound to be heard. Then suddenly, a wolf steps out of the woods. Tom stops. The wolf does too. Instead of fear, Tom feels something entirely different: curiosity, wonder, and the sense that this moment is important. He names the wolf Roy and keeps returning to the clearing. A bond of trust slowly develops between them. However, the villagers start to take notice of the wolf. There are talks of danger, of tracks in the woods, and of animals that have been killed. Adults begin to interfere. For Tom, Roy is not an enemy. But he realizes that not everyone thinks the same way. And the closer he gets to the wolf, the clearer it becomes to him that this friendship cannot remain as it is.
