Product details

In the shadow of the great photographers who continue to shape the perception of the Engadin, village photographers like Rudolf Grass worked. Away from the major tourist centers, they captured the people in their daily lives, their customs, villages, and landscapes, thus preserving a less idealized but much more authentic image of the valley. Rudolf Grass established himself alongside the major competitors with a wide range of photographic services. In addition to portraits and passport photos in the studio, he created spontaneous images outdoors during weddings, festivals, and club events, as well as during hunting, accidents, and natural disasters. Grass provided landscapes, plant studies, and animal subjects in the form of postcards to inns in the Münstertal and the Engadin, or sold them as prints to tourists and vacationers, for whom he also offered laboratory and enlargement services.
