Rudolf Urech-Seon (1876-1959) is one of the most distinctive Swiss artists of the 20th century and was one of the first to dedicate himself to abstraction. After his apprenticeship and work as a flat painter, as well as his training as an artist at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, he developed a language of forms characterized by reduced surfaces and lines in painting and drawing from the late 1920s onwards. He particularly processed impressions of the landscape around his birthplace Seon in the canton of Aargau, which he never left for an extended period, except during his years in Munich from 1913 to 1916. Despite this strong connection to his homeland, he participated in important exhibitions of his time, including the Paris Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, the Galerie des Eaux Vives in Zurich, the Helmhaus, and the Kunsthaus Zurich. This first comprehensive monograph on the life and work of Rudolf Urech-Seon is based on that.
