Augsburg is not only a university city, an environmental and peace city, and the city of the Fugger family and the Renaissance, but it is also surrounded by diverse landscapes where one can experience a lot on foot. Directly adjacent to the city area is the city forest, the largest non-Alpine nature reserve in southern Bavaria. The Lech River, with its floodplains and heath landscapes, connects the north and south. To the west lies the Augsburg Nature Park - Western Forests, featuring Holzwinkel, Reischenau, and Stauden. Here, tranquil forests, idyllic ponds, and small chapels can be explored on foot. To the east, the Wittelsbacher Land and Schrobenhausen asparagus region are part of the charming Tertiary hill country. Here, new landscape scenes follow one another in rapid succession. On clear days, it is sometimes even possible to see the Alps.
