Anja Liedtke and Achim Stegmüller spent August 2022 in Merano as part of the Franz Edelmaier Residency Scholarship for Human Rights. They traveled from Bochum and Kyoto. Short and highly contrasting texts recount their approach to Merano. Whether on hikes in the highlands, through the appropriation of the surroundings via literature and science, or during walks in the city, insights into the cultural landscape unfold. As diverse as the perspectives and thoughts are the forms of the texts. A dialogue gradually develops between the newcomers in the city and the surrounding landscape, as well as between the texts and motifs. This conversation about the relationship between humans and nature, and the literary engagement with it, is further explored by the visual artist Sabine Hey in her illustrations.
