Product details
The Sachsenburg concentration camp near Chemnitz was the most significant and longest-operating early concentration camp in Saxony. It was established by the National Socialists in the spring of 1933 to eliminate their main political opponents, particularly communists, social democrats, and trade unionists. Before its closure in 1937, the regime also increasingly incarcerated Jehovah's Witnesses, Jews, pastors of both denominations, and "preventive detainees" here. This volume, which includes 25 contributions from 19 authors, presents a comprehensive history of this concentration camp for the first time. In addition to placing the camp within the context of the Saxon Nazi terror system and outlining its development, the following aspects play a special role: the analysis of the perpetrator groups and individual perpetrators from the SA and SS, as well as the examination of the prisoner society and specific prisoner groups.
