All poems are presented in chronological order and have been critically examined. This work reveals Hölderlin's complex lyricism against the backdrop of his time. It includes overview comments on his major and intricate poems. Hölderlin was only recognized as a great lyricist in the 20th century. The intensity of his unembellished expression, bold metaphors, and the breaking of conventional norms, particularly in the poems written after 1800, positioned Hölderlin as both a precursor and an early master of modern artistic expression. Nevertheless, Hölderlin's poems are situated within the intellectual context of his era: sensibility, German idealism, the French Revolution, philhellenism, Rousseau's turn to 'nature', and the hyperbolic elevation of the 'poetic' all contribute to the historical contour of his poetry. This edition organizes Hölderlin's poems chronologically and subjects them to critical analysis.
