In this learning circle, students acquire important basic knowledge about acids, alkalis, salts, and the process of neutralization through simple but impressive experiments. At individual stations, they explore different acids (e.g., hydrochloric and sulfuric acid) and alkalis (e.g., caustic soda, hydroxides). They learn to distinguish between acids and alkalis and investigate how they react with each other. Students practice goal-oriented experiments, careful recording, and systematic derivation of findings, as well as constructive cooperation. In this way, basic chemical principles can be taught comprehensively and engagingly in chemistry lessons with little effort. Themes include acids in food, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, carbonic acid, inorganic acids, caustic soda, hydroxides, pH value and pH scale, neutralization, and heartburn.
