Jetta Schapiro-Rosenzweig was born as the daughter of a wealthy family in Vilnius. When the city was captured by Soviet troops in 1939, Jetta was already married to Jascha Schapiro and had a daughter, Tamar, with him. In the autumn of 1940, the Soviets confiscated their apartment, and the family found their way to Ponar, near Vilnius. There, they witnessed the German invasion and the murder of many Jews from Vilnius. Their struggle for survival began: fleeing from Ponar, hiding in a monastery, and being transported to the Vilnius ghetto. With the dissolution of the ghetto, the family was torn apart. The father was sent to a concentration camp, while the mother managed to escape. After 1945, both returned to Vilnius and learned that the father had been murdered in the concentration camp. Tamar Dreifuss, their daughter, translated these records from Yiddish for the book "Never Say, This Is Your Last Path.".
